Analysing his work

In my opinion his work is very dark fantasy and is a bit of a horror as well. Its also very creative and very different.

Pans Labyrinth is set in 1944 in Spain. Troop soldiers have been sent to a forest lead by Captain Vidal to find and attack the rebels. With them are new pregnant wife Carmen married to Captain Vidal and daughter which is from a previous marriage 11year old Ofelia. Her step father is a horrible person how only cares about himself and his pride. Ofelia is not liking being there but gets drawn to Pans Labyrinth a world of mythical beings.

The film I would describe is a cross between fairy tale/fantasy and horror. It is quite a dark film and reminds me of the film Caroline in the way it's all gloomy and feels like there is no hope. One of the ways this is done is by the use of lighting. It is also like Caroline in the way there is two worlds one is amazing and what the character imagines to be there favourite world and the other is gloomy and horrible.

By watching this in my own work I could use the lighting to give different atmospheres and emotions and I also like the colour grading. There is also a lot of textures.
