His work was very different compared to other films that were released around that time this was why it was ground breaking on release. They use film noir which is where there film is black and white and has quite a dark film and quite dramatic lighting. It still retained it's comic book style by the way that the character was very strong and superhuman. It also has stereotype characters of comic books. And how it is very saturated makes it less realistic although the shadows help to convey emotion.
