contents/planning and production

What progress have you made on the course? Think back to last September: which projects have you enjoyed most? What have been your strengths? What areas do you feel less confident in?

The progress that I have made from this course so far is that I have learnt how to use the adobe software which were Photoshop, Premiere Pro, Indesign and Audition. I’ve learnt how to do Photoshop and InDesign from making the magazine on the first project. This is where I learnt the basics of inserting images, texts and shapes and adding basic effects to the images of Photoshop and learning how to crop and take out the backgrounds. I learnt the basics of adding sounds changing the speed and adding effects and transitions to sound track in Audition when doing Sound and Foley. And learnt how to use Premiere Pro in the look book and stone pillow video learning how to add basic effects like text transitions and adding images.

The project that I have enjoyed most would be the magazine as I enjoyed learning the adobe software (Photoshop, InDesign) which is useful in the future as I want to do a career in print media. I also enjoyed doing the photography and editing the images and putting the whole magazine together.

I think that my strengths are more in the design area. I feel that I am less confident in editing especially in the film editing as I don’t really know how to add many effects. I defiantly want to improve on editing in general as this by practising and watching tutorials as its critical in the job I want to do which is print media.  I also think that I wasn’t too confident in audition as I didn’t really know many effect to add to the sound recordings.

Joe's Feedback for stage one and two

From Joe's  feed back on the summery of my work from stage one and two is that my strengths are individual ideas, organisation and project management and team work. My improvements/to explore more deeply is Audience testing and explaining practical skills through reflection and using images/screenshot recordings.

What types of job role are you aiming to specialise in?

The job role I want to specify in would be in print media and maybe in advertising. I especially like the design side of it and the photography.

How can you use the FMP to help develop a specialist project in preparation for this role?

The FMP can help me develop and prepare for the job role by helping me develop/improve my editing skills on Photoshop and InDesign. It will also help improve my work and make it a higher standard as I will be able to use more of the tools and effects on Premiere pro and InDesign.  It will also help me practice photography and  improve designing layouts.

How can you respond to the theme of 'surfaces' to develop an innovative, original project that shows your creative passion?

At first I found it quite hard to figure out how I was going to incorporate it into my final major project. Although once I mind mapped it and researched into it I found a lot of ideas that I could include for the theme of surfaces. I found that I liked the idea of using lighting maybe different colours or using shading from the light to put create a pattern on an object. I also like the look of filters like black and white as it makes the image have more depth and also helps enhance the textures and surface of the image.

Rationale

The start date is the 24/02/2020 and the completion date for the final major project is 5/06/2020. There will be a pitch in the first 3 weeks 16/03/2020 showing what you are doing for your final major project. Formal feed back about my work will be given on 20/04/2020 and before the end on the 15/05/202 I will be presenting my work to get peer feedback on how to improve my work with the deadline being on the 5/06/2020. I am being asked to make a media product that appeals to a 16-18 target audience.

The process I intend to use through out this project is to research into different media products to help me understand what styles are used and what things that target market like. I need to plan what designs I want to do and then produce and reflect on the work on how to do improvements and then evaluate on how the whole project went.

Equipment that I need is a camera, maybe a tripod, a computer and editing software like adobe to edit the media product on.

New skills that I need to learn is how to use the camera a bit better and to learn more buttons and skills. I also want to improve my skills on adobe by learning how to use more tools and effects to improve my media product.

The initial ideas that I have are doing a magazine on fashion/photography, music video about a persons perspective going outside at night and walking round different landscapes. A advertising campaign on a high-street clothing shop or a short film on the effects of what humans do to a habitat show the comparisons between rural and urban landscape.

I will use reflection and planning to help me improve my work stage by stage. This will make my work a higher quality as it shows the steps I have taken to make my work better and what I have struggled with and how I resolved those solutions. For this I will make sure that I will reflect each day on what I did and struggles and improvement I have made or want to make. I also want to do peer critique twice a week to get more improvements that I may not see as it’s a different perspective.

Mood Board

Here I created a mood board to help give me ideas and visualise what the theme surfaces could be interpreted as. I found that i liked the use of different coloured lighting and different texture that shadows can create. i also like the different filters added to images. I like the black and white images taken by Georges Brassai as the image being in black and white gives it more depth and makes the textures of the image stand out more which works with the theme with surfaces.

Initial Ideas

Weekly Planning

•I need to write a project concept

•Start to write a project proposal on what I intend to do which might be magazine work

•Finish off doing future job roles and diversity in the media industry

•Research my target audience (look at products that appeals to the audience) and maybe look into skills for software to edit with

•Mind map research sources

•Research into media products which might be magazines (this helps with the development of the media product)

•Do peer critique and constant problem solving

 Project concept

The idea that I have for my media product will be making digital media product (magazine) for the target audience of a 16 to 18-year-old. I need to include photo essay and written article, A3 front cover, A2 poster, 4 x double page spreads. My theme of my magazine will be a lifestyle magazine which focuses on fashion and the lifestyle of teenagers e.g. issues they face in the world. I want my magazine to be engaging for the target audience and appeal to them by the articles being on topics they relate to. This had changed from my original idea of being a fashion magazine as I want the magazine to relate to a wider audience.

The magazine will approach the use of the use of surfaces by the use of textures, light, reflection and filters. For example, I had an idea of using light and shadows to reflect different patterns onto the face. I also have another idea of using a projector to project different images onto the face for example different textures or lights to reflect off the face. I also want to use different textured clothing and hair styles to relate to the theme of surfaces.

It will use the following processes of research into my target audience to find out their interests what they like in a magazine and throughout the process finding out what designs they prefer. This will help me improve my magazine and make it appeal to the target audience. I will also be doing research into different magazines and what styles I like and are popular with teenagers. I will also be doing a lot of planning and self-refection and peer critique to improve and evaluate on my work.

This final major project will help allow me to use my strengths because I am stronger in the print media and I am a bit more confident it is using a camera to take photos and using the software like in-design and photoshop although, I do need to improve more on these skills as I am still not that experienced. I also enjoy the designing and creating interesting layouts.

I will learn new skills in areas like photography as I want to know learn how to use a camera better and become more experience in all the buttons and settings. This will help improve my photography work and create a better media product. I also will learn new skills in photoshop and in-design as I will have more time to go into more depth into different editing skills that I can use on the software which, will help improve my media product.

I will make it engage for the specified audience by having articles that appeal to that target audience. For instance, I will make my articles related to issues teenagers face for example mental health, social media and what they want to do in the future.

It will be similar to media products like teen vouge, vouge and Elle as these magazines appeal to the same target audience that I need to appeal to. I also like the style of the magazine and the simplicity of them. I also like the style of the images and how they use colours and different textures in the clothing.

From the research I have done on my audience into establishing audience and the audience profile I have found that they enjoy socialising with friends and they are quite creative and subjects they do at collage are quite creative. They enjoy discussing things there friends and are interested into fashion. There for I can appeal my magazine better to this specific audience. I will do this by making a modern creative design and articles talking about issues faced by teens which incorporates fashion.

Here I have taken some rough shots of some of the images I was thinking of doing in my magazine. I gave mostly all of the images a black and white filter to make the image more bold and intense. I liked how the light worked out as I used a collider and a flash light to create a speckled light look. I also used a light machine to create different coloured lights on the face although I do not like the image that was taken. I found that it didn't really matter if it was taken in a lighter area as I could edit it to change the light and contrast. I think that my favourite image was the first one as it has good contrast between the light and dark whilst still being able to see the model. Doing these shots has helped me realise ways I can successfully take the image and what type of camera angles and shots I prefer over others.

Planing Layouts

I have done many different designs of my final major project. this has helped me visualise how many images I might need for my magazine and what type of layout I am thinking of doing. I am still not completely sure on what deign I am choosing as I want to base the layout of the final images taken as I want the images in my magazine to take priority in the magazine.

Font mood board

The article is about body positivity and diversity in the modeling industry. It was talking about how they used a non-stereotypical person to model for Gucci. There was a backlash  of complaints with people body shaming her. Although others were fighting back, saying if you don’t have a realistic representation people complain.

The types of diversity it’s discusses are how she didn’t meet the stereotypical standards of a model, as she wasn’t wearing a whole face of makeup and had gaps in her teeth.

I think that diversity is important in creating media, because it means there a wide range of representations of people that everyone can relate to.

I need to consider that I don’t not insult or offend any group. That I won’t stereotype or represent them in any negative light. It will be as inclusive as possible.

Diversity in Media

Due to the situation at the moment I am having to rewrite my plan

Initial design's

Here I have done a couple of designs for a double page spread. I used a drawing app for the background and the flowers. I don't really like either of the designs as I don't really think it fits all together right.

Backgrounds for projector onto objects

Here I have some of the backgrounds of which I have used a projector to have the images onto my face as a test run. Some were very effective although some did not turn out very good as they didn't have bold colours. I found that the images have to have bold colours for it to stand out and to show clearly on the face. This has helped me to move forward in what works and what images I want to take and a more specific style for the magazine.

Here I have taken images using the projector to project an image onto the face. Although I like the effect that it gives I don't really think its the right style for my magazine. I also don't partially like the camera shots, and how intense the image is and how bright and bold the colours are. I also don't really like the editing.
